Missouri’s largest drive-in theater with four giant screens showing double features to a capacity crowd of 1,200 cars, the I-70 Drive-In opened with a single screen in 1964. Opening features included Frank Sinatra in Robin and the 7 Hoods, Don Knotts in The Incredible Mr. Limpet, and Anthony Perkins in Tall Story. Screens 2, 3 and 4 opened in 1991. B&B Theatres closed the I-70 in 2018.
One of the great drive-in marquees, The I-70 neon was meant as a scaled down replica of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. On closing, the arch was destroyed. Fortunately, the I-70 Drive-In neon survived. LUMI was also fortunate to rescue two original speakers from the grounds.
