Chubby’s on Broadway was a mainstay, midtown Kansas City late-night diner for more than 30 years.
Open 24 hours at 3756 Broadway, Chubby’s delivered a classic diner vibe with table jukeboxes, black-and-white checkered walls, circular counter stools and leather booths. Its expansive menu served an equally diverse mix of families, college students, senior citizens, after-bar revelers and early-morning breakfast lovers. Whether ordering biscuits and gravy, eggs Benedict, a slider-bar burger, or meatloaf with mashed, each meal included a complimentary cinnamon roll and unrivaled people watching.
Originally located at 3623 Broadway, the former home of Kansas City’s famed Sidney’s restaurant, Chubby’s lost its lease in 1989 and moved a block south and across the street, where it stayed until closing for good post-Halloween night, 2018.
The Chubby’s sign, graciously donated by owner Tony Olson, now brightens the LUMI collection and satisfies any hunger for classic neon.
