Italian cuisine meets American diner. Founded in 1930, Cascone’s Grill remained a Kansas City breakfast and lunch staple for 89 years. Located in the City Market, Cascone’s served Italian sausage and eggs, hash browns, and meatloaf and gravy, to name a few fan favorites.
George Cascone fondly remembers: “Lots of friendly goodfellas liked to sit with their backs to the wall.” One can only imagine their surprise when none other than Tyra Banks walked in with two other models while visiting KC. The restaurant proudly displayed the photo she signed, ‘To the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had.’ Comedian Gallagher of “Sledge-O-Matic” fame also visited once, ordering a grilled cheese on wheat, apparently with no food sledging incident.
According to George and Annette Cascone, “It was all about the customers.” Unfortunately, loyal customers couldn’t offset the higher rent resulting from the city’s new streetcar. Cascone’s closed in March 2019.
